It wasn’t just a technical gap; it was a profound lack of education that left people, properties, and investments vulnerable to nature’s most powerful force.

Mike understood that at the heart of this issue was a need for knowledge. He believed that if more people were educated about earthing and lightning protection, the world would be a safer place. Driven by this conviction, he made it his mission to not only design and install state-of-the-art systems but to educate others, empowering them to take control of their safety and assets.

Over the decades, Mike trained thousands of individuals, from engineers to safety professionals, spreading critical awareness and expertise. His work has safeguarded billions in assets around the globe, from mines to massive industrial projects. His unwavering dedication earned him recognition as a leading figure in the field. As the founding chair of the Earthing and Lightning Protection Association (ELPA), Mike championed industry standards and best practices. He also served as the convener of the SANS committee on 10313, contributing to shaping vital regulations.

Accredited by the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI) in the USA as a designee and inspector, Mike’s reputation for excellence was not limited to South Africa. He stood out as one of the few South Africans to attend the International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), where he accessed and shared cutting-edge research with global experts. His role as an advanced practical trainer further reinforced his belief in passing on knowledge to create a safer, more informed industry.
